Lola is my cat. Here’s a typical day for her:
Yowl and scratch at dining room door to wake and annoy humans
Stand by food bowl and look sad until the female human brings the food
Weave in and out of female human’s legs as she attempts to walk to food bowl
Eat like there’s no tomorrow
Immediately go sit by kitchen door and ‘ask’ to be let out
Ten minutes later, ask to be let back in
One minute after that, ask to be let out
Come back in
Check food bowl to see if more tasty morsels have appeared
Climb out of washing machine where put by that short, hyper human
Go out
Chase a squirrel
Come back in
Go out
Come back in
Drink some water
Attack the curtains
Try to sit on the squidgy baby human’s seat and get told off
Check food bowl again
Take a long nap on the humans’ bed, leaving black hairs all over the white duvet
Drink some more water
Play with a piece of plastic on the floor
Go out
Poop in neighbour’s garden
Come back in
Go out
Frolic in leaves
Come back in
Look at food bowl plaintively
Go out
Come back in
Female human approaching with food bag — oh happy day!
Eat like there’s no tomorrow
Take a short nap on sofa
Sit on male human’s lap
Sniff baby’s head and recoil
Go out
Get into scrap with a loser grey cat; kick his ass
Come back in
Play with that infuriating laser pointer
Drink more water
Allow female human to scratch my ears and belly
Purr lots
Put into dining room in my lovely soft bed and scratching post
Fall asleep dreaming of my food bowl filled with majestic mounds of plentiful treats

She’s here! Introducing the newest member of the Noble family

Curled up asleep in TNC’s booster seat

I picked her up at about 11am this morning and she has transitioned so smoothly that it’s almost freaking me out. She only mewed a bit in the car and didn’t seem bothered by it even though she’s never left her previous owners’ house. I got her home and intoduced her to the family. She meowed for a few minutes and hid under the table but would come to me with just the tiniest bit of coaxing. She loves to be held and stroked and was purring like a maniac within an hour of her arrival. I showed her where her litter tray, food and water were and worked on reassuring her and showing her around the dining room, where she will stay for the next day or two while she settles in. Within two hours she was happy to play with a feather on a string and chase a ball with a bell in it. After that, she had a nice long sleep and is still pretty much dozing on and off all afternoon and into the evening.
Lola has been very tolerant of TNC’s loud shouts of ‘MEOW!’ and the sound of thundering feet come to find her. She hasn’t spooked or swatted and actually seems very placid in the presence of a rambunctious toddler. TNC offered her kitty a cracker and patted her very gently on the head and now they seem to be at ease with one another. We can only hope it’s as easy as this in the coming weeks.
I am in kitten heaven. Lola appears to be a people cat and loves to be held on her back, like a baby. I just know she’ll be a great lap pet and companion. I am so glad we adopted her. The Noble Husband keeps saying “Look at my three beautiful ladies, I’m the luckiest man alive!” There’s so much cuteness in this house today that I want to go outside and pinch it’s pebble-dash cheeks.
There’s a small possibility that we may be extending our little family even more — when I picked up Lola, the husband was telling me that the person who was supposed to adopt the last kitty, Lola’s brother, seemed to be dragging his heels and they weren’t sure if it was going to happen. Before I knew what hit me, I found myself offering to adopt him as well if they couldn’t find a home for him soon. The guy seemed quite enthusiastic about this and said he’d call once they knew what was happening. I know it might seem a bit mad to get not just one but two kittens when there’s a toddler in the house but part of me knows that we’ll want another cat at some point and it’s so much easier if they are from the same litter and adopted at roughly the same time. No later stress over territory issues or personality clashes. So we’ll see. Nothing is set in stone and I may change my mind but I’m keeping an open mind about it.
Yay for fluffy friends!

You may remember that I recently posted about trying to find a cat to adopt. We haven’t had a pet for three years now and have been itching to welcome a furry friend into our lives. It wasn’t easy but we finally found a kitten that needs a home last week and decided on Monday that we would adopt her. She is currently 11 weeks old and is black with white markings on her face and paws. We will pick her up next Saturday, one week from today. We’ve decided to name her Lola. Let’s just hope she doesn’t have yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there.
I went to the pet store today and bought the carrier, litter tray, food and water bowls, a small bag of food and some toys. I’ll pick up a bag of litter and a collar later this week and then we should be all set! I asked the man at the pet shop for a veterinarian recommendation and he said the two vet practices in town were not very good. He recommended one in the next town over, which is a bus ride away. I’m a little hesitant about having to get a bus to take my kitty to the vet’s office but obviously want her to have the best care. Hopefully we’ll have a car sometime next year anyway so it would probably only be a couple of visits to worry about anyway.
When we bring her home I will definitely get some pictures up so you can ooh and aah over her supreme cuteness.
