96 blogs on my RSS feed

…96 blogs to read
Take one down, pass it around
Still 95 blogs on my reader to read

Okay, that’s it. You people have got to stop being such damn good writers and making me laugh because if I get to 100 blogs on my RSS reader I think I will have to quit my job, get a divorce and put the kids in daycare so I have time to read them all. Or maybe I could just hire a cleaner and get a loo built right into the sofa so I never have to get up and miss that thrilling moment when a blog’s name flashes on my reader and then goes bold, meaning a new post has been published. When this happens I simultaneously smile (in anticipation of reading it) and cringe (thinking of the other things I need to be doing instead).

What number do you think I’d have to get up to before considering Blog Psychotherapy? Does such a service exist? And if so, does it have a blog I can read? Oh dear.

A few of the sites fuelling my addiction of late:

Blogger Dad

Blues Of A Waxwing

Gwen Alison Wonderland

Jo Beaufoix

Nixdminx

Not Wrong, Just Different

Raising My Boychick

Some Mothers Do ‘Ave Em

The Bloggess

The Potty Diaries

WAHM-BAM!

These are the people I will blame when I am dragged in my straightjacket to the blogging therapy retreat, where I will be forced to meet other people face-to-face, talk about my feelings verbally and use primitive tools (pen and paper) to write down my thoughts. With no comments section! No searchable archives! No spam filters! Oh the humanity…

Update: Within a half hour of writing this I found four more blogs of interest and subscribed. Try not to judge me, it really is an illness.

  1. So you were having the same conversation difficulties as me yesterday (lol!)…

  2. NS says:

@zooarchaelogist – My conversation is only ever hindered by little people who insist on throwing their toys on the floor and/or running away, making concentrating a bit challenging. Sorry I didn’t get the chance to chat to you, though I did with your other half. Our babies held hands too. Bless!

  3. Charlotte says:

Thanks for sharing your favourite blogs. I have another syndrome in need of therapy: blog exhaustion, in other words, I no longer have the energy – given that I already subscribe to 146 blogs – to seek out new and good writers. Having you point the way is great!

  4. Iota says:

I tried giving up once… It didn’t last.

  5. emms says:

I pretend it’s in the name of ‘research’. Even if said research is nothing to do with my work :P

  6. jen says:

i actually read very few blogs these days, maybe a dozen? i think i’ve just become really selective about what i want to spend my time and energy on…

  7. Potty Mummy says:

And they just keep coming, don’t they. I think my husband – no, I KNOW my husband – thinks I’m crazy…

  8. 96?! I hope lots of them only post once a month. Thanks for the mention.

  9. I feel your pain, I really do!
I have so many blogs to read it’s nigh on impossible to get around to them all. I know all the rules of blogging state that you should most as often as possible, but really I wish people would slow down so I can catch up!
And then there are the people I’ve discovered through Twitter . . .
    Really, I have no life!

  10. Anji says:

I’m the opposite; a few days ago I unsubscribed from about 75% of the blogs I had in my Google Reader, because it was getting so draining trying to keep up with them all. I’m still subscribed to 83 blogs, which shows the dilemma I was in before. ;)

  11. I subscribe to so many I had to make sub-categories… I still only visit about 15-20 regularly (yours included – obviously :) . It used to overwhelm me until I just decided to give myself a break. I’ll try to catch up on my favorites during the week. What I really need to do is delete the ones I haven’t clicked on in forever and just make a clean slate… hmmm….

Glad to know it’s not just me! Seems there are at least another 9 or 10 people in the same boat! hahaa

  12. A Free Man says:

    I have 140. Damn it.

  13. A Free Man says:

    You’ve given me another one.

  14. NS says:

@Charlotte – Yes, I think I may be getting a bit of blog exhaustion too. Might have to do some culling soon. Might be able to cut out a dozen if I’m lucky. They’re all so good!

    @Iota – Obviously. ;)

@emms – Yep, me too. One can do a lot in the name of “research.”

@jen – Very zen of you. Maybe I’ll get there some day…

@Potty Mummy – Certifiably insane is the consensus here. He can’t really talk though, he’s into some online football game and forum that he checks before he even pees in the morning. We have equal opportunity internet obsession here. :)

@Coding Mamma (Tasha) – You’re most welcome. I enjoy your posts!

@Tara – I know! Sometimes I want to say “Whoa, hold on people, stop posting for just one day so I can play catch up!”

@Anji – Wow (both to the culling and number remaining after a 75% cut)!

@Jessica – I really, really need to split mine up into categories. Maybe I’ll do that while I’m on holiday and then pick a category to read every day. Who am I kidding, I’ll still be all over the place.

    @A Free Man – Don’t hate me. ;)

Thanks so much for the mention. When I catch up on the bazillion blogs in my reader, I will come back to this post and check out some of the others you mentioned.
