Driving along in my automobile
NS July 24th, 2008
Today, I achieved something I never thought possible — I passed my UK driving test! To my American readers this may not seem like such a big deal, but here in Britain only 43% of people pass on their first try. Granted, I am not a teenager and I have driven before in the US but I hadn’t been behind the wheel in nearly four years and was very nervous about learning to drive on the other side of the road, the other side of the car and navigate those funny things called roundabouts. Turns out none of those things are all that difficult to master. In fact, I now think that roundabouts are genius. No needless waiting at red lights for ages and the endless amusement at shouting “Look kids, Big Ben!” as you go round in circles looking for your exit — what’s not to love?
Today, I am that little bit closer to total assimilation into British culture. Resistance is futile, apparently. I still refuse to eat the evil brown sauces though. Maybe in another five years…

way to go!! very impressive!
congrats!! how fun and exciting!
As a lifelong inmate/resident I resisted the brown sauces for over 20 years before succumbing to their charms…… in moderation
Congrats!
Well done! Took me three goes.
My husband, who has now driven in England a few times, is completely converted to roundabouts and will now say at various hopeless intersections around here, ‘Here’s another one that could do with a roundabout.’
Congrats! That is a major achievement.
I knew you would pass it! You are a better driver than you give yourself credit for. I’ll have a toast to you since you can’t right now.
Brilliant! how amazing! I am so impressed as I was on of those sad people who took like…4 times to pass!! You deserve it being pregnant!
congrats! i’m excited to go around a roundabout with you! it’s the little things for me!
