Rain rain, go away

NS April 5th, 2008

In typical British weather fashion, it was gorgeously warm and sunny yesterday (high of 62F!) but today, the day we are having the year’s first barbeque and TNC’s second birthday party, it is chilly, cloudy and rainy (high of only 50F). Meh!

I know it’s only the start of April so I shouldn’t have expected much but it’s so infuriating when the weather is perfect the day before an outdoor event and then crappy on the day of. I wish I could at least get stonking drunk to ease the pain that is the rain. Ah well, mustn’t grumble. We’ll have food, family, friends and fun and that’s all that matters. Even if the sausages get slightly wet.

Ah ha! So you’re the one who’s having a barbie. I knew somebody had jinxed the weather!

We’re having one tomorrow so I expect it’ll rain then, too! Short of having one inside (we have done that before, on a door placed over the top of the cooker with the exractor on full blast… but um… we are a bit eccentric) a bar-b-queue with a lid is essential in this country…

It may help to know that I managed to get married on the only day when a gale blew and it pissed with rain in what was the hottest summer on record. The day after the sun came out and it didn’t rain for three months… I feel your pain! ;-)

    Good luck and enjoy anyway.

    Cheers

Happy Birthday to TNC! We were thinking of a barbeque today but it’s due to rain in Germany too. May have to stay inside and shiver instead.

  3. We were at Chessington yesterday having got our annual Merlin season tickets. I think if it’d been the only day of the year I’d gone to Chessington the weather would have got me down but having the season ticket means you don’t really feel like your paying…….. enabling me to be very ‘British’ and enjoy the thrill rides in the rain!

I’ve just been up to Sainsbury’s (through the snow) and spotted their collection of instant BBQ kit……. which seemed a little odd given the circumstances……..

I hope you had a great time anyway!!! :)

And this is why English people are obsessed with the weather, because you can’t rely on it. You always need a back up plan of what you’ll do if it rains. Which it mostly does if you have planned anything outside.
It’s the same here in Connecktycut – yesterday was supposed to rain but was lovely; today is supposed to be lovely, and I am supposed to hike, but it looks like rain.
    Happy Birthday to TNC!

i’ve completely stopped relying on the weather reports and just always assume the weather will be the opposite of what is predicted. i hope you all still had fun at the bbq! wish i could have been there with you!
