Yawning my way through the day

NS March 18th, 2008

After TNC’s monster stomach flu marathon last week and the ensuing worry, loss of sleep, mountains of laundry and loss of outside human contact, I thought this week would be gloriously better. I imagined worry-free nights, a full eight hours in my own bed with a warm, fluffy duvet and pillows so soft that I would periodically have to check that they were indeed pillows and not mounds of marshmallow fluff. I envisaged getting everything on my to-do list done and the house sparkling clean and an article written, all before the long Easter weekend. I never guessed that my now-well child would stick a knife in her mother’s back — the very mother who cared for, cuddled, cleaned and comforted her for the five day event now known as Pukeapalooza 2008 — by choosing this week to not only begin waking up super early (like, 5.30am early) but to cut her nap time in half as well. So just when I think “Okay, I can handle this. The sun doesn’t even come up for another hour but I’ll live. I’ll just take a nap when she does,” she wakes up early, right after I’ve had my lunch and settled down for a quick sleep. Damn intolerable toddler behaviour, I tell you! ‘Tis not fair.

To top things off, The Noble Husband has a touch of the bug and so isn’t of much use when he gets home either. I swear, if I get it next I’m just going to move into a hotel until it’s over. I can’t handle being the nurse-maid for two others and then drawing the short straw when I feel like shit. I’d rather be all Neanderthal-like and just go hide in a cave until it’s all over. At least then I’d have the sweet bliss of silence!

I’d just go to bed extra early tonight but I’m going out to dinner at one of my old haunts to see some friends, one of whom has just come in from New Zealand for a visit. Hopefully a hot curry will cure my fatigue. I think I’d need a vindaloo to cure these yawns though.

well, at least you know mom and dad will be there in 2 weeks, so i’m sure they’ll be happy to get up with the noble child and let you sleep in!

the early waking will all even out when we change the clocks ;)

I have always felt that children have a sixth sense for knowing when their Mom’s are counting on a nap time.

I hope the horrible germs don’t spread to you!

I have to tell you…and this has nothing to do with this post…that I sincerely enjoy reading your posts.

Even when the post is about nothing in particular I love the way I can visualize everything you are going through. Well done

    Thanks~!

Ah! The clocks! I had almost forgotten about that. Thank the lords.

I think it’s safe to say that I successfully avoided getting the bug. It’s a miracle!

    Moxie-Mom — thank you. :)

You have my sympathy… I had a bug like that a couple of years ago, I thought I was going to die and forget about cough with confidence, I could hardly sigh with confidence.

    Cheers
